Elegent Dining
From wherever you are standing on the High Street in Kilkenny, a few minutes walk will get you to the most famous of all the slips, the Butterslip Lane and to Petronella Restaurant-Cafe.

Over four hundred years ago horse drawn carriages trundled down this thoroughfare. The charming slip with its pretty name is steeped in history and worn with footfall and remains so today.

Duck under the archway and just on the right Petronella has becoming a regular for those who have discovered her.

We had a beautiful meal here last night. The main course especially was out of this world!!!! The sauce to accompany the gnocchi was simply mouth watering. It was great to eat at a place where tasty, good food is their priority! I'll definely return!!!

- Loved it -
Loved almost everting about this spot. The owner was super welcoming when we arrived and decor was quaint and in- keeping with the area. Really liked the vegetarian and vegan menu- was lovely to have such a choice. Some of the portions looked small on such huge plates but struggled to finish them- more than enough. Would not hesitate to recommend this spot, choice and food are spot on

- Well worth a visit -
Greeted warmly on arrival by the restaurant proprietor, Frank, who seated us at a window table downstairs (at our request) as upstairs was very full that evening. We had vegetable soup and portobello mushrooms to start followed by ribsteaks, served with seasoned handout chips, onion wrapped in bacon, mushroom garnish, with a peppered sauce on the side. Everything was very tasty and cooked to perfection. One steak was a bit more grisly than the other so we did a swap around. We shared a dessert between us (death by chocolate) served with ice cream and berry compote. Totally yummy! With wine and a few beers, the bill came to just over the 100 mark. Service from all staff throughout the evening, particularly Frank, was very attentive. Overall we enjoyed great food and a lovely relaxed evening in a beautiful historic setting (the building dates from the 1600s). We look forward to a return visit to Petronella soon. One slight issue to flag. Some of their wooden floor surfaces are very slippy so diners need to take care while walking around to avoid a fall. We mentioned this to a staff member and were advised that the situation is being remedied. That would be advisable in the current climate!
