Greeted warmly on arrival by the restaurant proprietor, Frank, who seated us at a window table downstairs (at our request) as upstairs was very full that evening.
We had vegetable soup and portobello mushrooms to start followed by ribsteaks, served with seasoned handout chips, onion wrapped in bacon, mushroom garnish, with a peppered sauce on the side.
Everything was very tasty and cooked to perfection. One steak was a bit more grisly than the other so we did a swap around.
We shared a dessert between us (death by chocolate) served with ice cream and berry compote. Totally yummy!
With wine and a few beers, the bill came to just over the 100 mark.
Service from all staff throughout the evening, particularly Frank, was very attentive.
Overall we enjoyed great food and a lovely relaxed evening in a beautiful historic setting (the building dates from the 1600s). We look forward to a return visit to Petronella soon.
One slight issue to flag. Some of their wooden floor surfaces are very slippy so diners need to take care while walking around to avoid a fall. We mentioned this to a staff member and were advised that the situation is being remedied. That would be advisable in the current climate!
